Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has raised more than £4000 for Amlwch Football Club after she organised a fundraising dinner on the island attended by the energy minister Greg Hands.
The event last night at Braids Bistro in Holyhead saw 70 guests tuck into a delicious curry cooked by head chef Matt Birch and his team of Ben Sillence and Emma Jane Hughes.
Afterwards a raffle and auction raised £4100 for the club. Prizes included dinner with Virginia kindly donated by Sage Kitchen in Menai which raised over £500 all by itself.
Other prizes included window cleaning, dog walking, dinner at the Gadlys Hotel in Cemaes Bay and a round of golf at the Bull Bay Golf Club.
Greg Hands then made a speech where he told guests: “Ten minutes after it was announced I was to be the new energy minister - I received a message from Virginia inviting me to Anglesey!
“Anglesey could have no better champion in Westminster than Virginia Crosbie. She has been tireless in her advocacy for jobs and investment on Ynys Môn.”
He also paid tribute to the football club saying it was a great community club with top women’s and walking men's teams.
The minister had spent the day on the island visiting Morlais and Minesto before a roundtable lunch with community stakeholders at the Dinorben Arms Hotel in Amlwch.
He then joined with the BEIS Secretary of State Kwasi Kwarteng at Wylfa where the pair launched the £120m Future Nuclear Enabling Fund that will help develop new nuclear power in the UK, including at Wylfa.
Virginia said: “What a great evening and an absolutely amazing total for Amlwch Football club to use for its community work and to grow its teams.
“Thank you to everyone who donated to the raffle, to the generosity of the guests who bought the items and to the minister for coming and being the guest of honour.”
Virginia has now raised more than £9,000 for local charities this year with fundraising events for the veterans’ charity SSAFA on Anglesey and the Anglesey Agricultural Society. More events are planned.
