The launch of the UK Energy Security Strategy is positive news for the Wylfa site! In addition, I urged the UK Government in the House of Commons to consider discounted electricity bills for islanders when the new Wylfa nuclear plant is built.
Boris Johnson was in North Wales this week where he reiterated that a new power station will be built at Wylfa on Anglesey, and he is determined to “get it going as fast as possible”. I also believe that discounted electricity bills should be part of a comprehensive package of measures islanders should expect when spades go into the ground at Wylfa. There is no doubt there must be a community dividend from having this plant on the island in addition to the huge amount of jobs and investment that it brings. I have campaigned tirelessly to bring new nuclear to Wylfa on Anglesey.
When Ynys Môn democratically elected me as their Member of Parliament – my manifesto commitment was to deliver jobs, skilled employment and investment to our island – following decades of economic decline that should not have been allowed to happen. I will not stop working hard to delivering on my promises – whether it be new nuclear, a Freeport or our levelling up bid.
Anglesey needed a champion – and I will champion our island at every opportunity.
