Yesterday Robin Millar, the Member of Parliament for Aberconwy, welcomed Prime Minister Boris Johnson to Hanson Aggregates’ plant in Penmaenmawr.
Increasing demand from infrastructure projects across the UK is helping to spur investment and drive job creation.
The Prime Minister heard how projects such as HS2 high-speed rail and the building of new nuclear power stations at Sizewell and Hinkley, is driving demand for high quality Welsh granite. As part of their strategy to meet rising demand and to reduce CO2 emissions caused by vehicle movements, Hanson Aggregates are investing in their Penmaenmawr facility. In December they reopened the North Wales railhead in the town allowing 250,000 tonnes a year of materials to be loaded directly onto rail.
Speaking about the visit, Robin said:
“North Wales is a region of vast potential that has been overlooked and underfunded for more than two decades. Communities in Aberconwy and across North Wales have been forced to endure an economic decline that did not need to happen.
“The planned upgrades to the A55, vital for economic development across North Wales, were out on hold by Welsh government and the funds diverted elsewhere in Wales. Upgraded rolling stock that we were promised for our North Wales railways have not been delivered - but they have appeared in South Wales.
"Once again it is North Wales that has to continue to endure unreliable services and frequent overcrowding.
“So I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to Penmaenmawr yesterday, his second visit to Aberconwy in 8 months, to see how the Government’s levelling up program is helping to create high skilled employment opportunities here and throughout the UK."
Finishing, Robin said:
“I’d like to echo the Prime Minister’s appreciation to the management and entire team at Hansons for the warm welcome that they extended during his visit. I look forward to doing all that I can in the months and years ahead to support this important local employer in continuing to flourish - and the community of Penmaenmawr that hosts them.”

Mae’r galw cynyddol gan brosiectau seilwaith ledled y DU yn helpu i ysgogi buddsoddiad a sbarduno creu swyddi.
Clywodd y Prif Weinidog sut mae prosiectau fel rheilffordd gyflym HS2 ac adeiladu gorsafoedd pŵer niwclear newydd yn Sizewell a Hinkley, yn ysgogi’r galw am ithfaen ansawdd uchel o Gymru. Fel rhan o’u strategaeth i gwrdd â’r galw cynyddol a lleihau allyriadau CO2 a achosir gan symudiadau cerbydau, mae Hanson Aggregates yn buddsoddi yn eu cyfleuster ym Mhenmaenmawr. Ym mis Rhagfyr, fe wnaethon nhw ailagor pen rheilffordd Gogledd Cymru yn y dref, gan lwytho 250,000 tunnell y flwyddyn o ddeunyddiau’n uniongyrchol ar y rheilffordd.
Wrth siarad am yr ymweliad, dywedodd Robin:
“Mae gogledd Cymru yn ardal o botensial aruthrol sydd wedi cael ei hanwybyddu a’i thanariannu ers dros ddau ddegawd. Mae cymunedau yn Aberconwy ac ar draws Gogledd Cymru wedi cael eu gorfodi i ddioddef dirywiad economaidd yn ddi-angen.
“Mae’r gwelliannau arfaethedig i’r A55, sy’n hanfodol ar gyfer datblygu economaidd ledled Gogledd Cymru, wedi cael eu gohirio gan Lywodraeth Cymru ac mae’r arian wedi cael ei ailgyfeirio i fannau eraill yng Nghymru. Nid yw’r cerbydau wedi’u huwchraddio a addawyd i ni ar gyfer rheilffyrdd Gogledd Cymru wedi cael eu darparu – ond maen nhw wedi ymddangos yn Ne Cymru.
“Unwaith eto, Gogledd Cymru sy’n gorfod parhau i ddioddef gwasanaethau annibynadwy a gorlenwi cyson.
“Felly, roeddwn yn falch iawn o groesawu Prif Weinidog y Deyrnas Unedig i Benmaenmawr ddoe, ei ail ymweliad ag Aberconwy mewn 8 mis, i weld sut mae rhaglen codi’r gwastad y Llywodraeth yn helpu i greu cyfleoedd cyflogaeth sydd angen sgiliau uchel yma a ledled y DU.”
I gloi, dywedodd Robin:
“Hoffwn ategu gwerthfawrogiad y Prif Weinidog i’r tîm rheoli a’r tîm cyfan yn Hanson am y croeso cynnes a gawsom yn ystod ein hymweliad. Edrychaf ymlaen at wneud popeth a allaf yn y misoedd a’r blynyddoedd i ddod i gefnogi’r cyflogwr lleol pwysig hwn i barhau i ffynnu – yn ogystal â chefnogi cymuned Penmaenmawr .”
