Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales has welcomed the news that Conwy County Borough Council plan to launch a new Conwy Schools Football Programme. The news follows a local campaign led by football coaches that Sam has been supporting. The Programme will see players drawn from schools all over the county.
Mr Rowlands said:
I am absolutely delighted by this news as up until now Conwy was the only local authority in North Wales not to have a county wide school football team.
It is something I have wanted to see in the county for a good while and it’s been great to see the initiative being supported by a group of local football coaches who have been campaigning for a team for some time.
This news shows what can be achieved when councils work with local residents and those in the community. A big thank you is due to everyone involved.
Cllr. Louise Emery, Deputy Leader of Conwy County Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Leisure said she was also delighted with the decision:
I think it is a great move and I am looking forward to the programme starting and seeing our team playing against other counties. As councillors we are elected by our residents and it is only right that we listen to what they have to say. I would also like to thank the local group of football coaches for supporting and pursuing this initiative.
Rhaglen Bêl-droed Ysgolion Conwy
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, wedi croesawu'r newyddion bod Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy yn bwriadu lansio Rhaglen Bêl-droed newydd i ysgolion y sir. Daw'r newyddion yn dilyn ymgyrch leol dan arweiniad hyfforddwyr pêl-droed a gefnogir gan Sam. Bydd y Rhaglen yn denu chwaraewyr o ysgolion ledled y sir.
Dywedodd Mr Rowlands:
Rwyf wrth fy modd gyda'r newyddion, gan mai Conwy oedd unig awdurdod lleol y Gogledd heb dîm pêl-droed ar gyfer ysgolion y sir.
Mae'n rhywbeth rwyf wedi bod am ei weld yn y sir ers tro, ac mae'n braf gweld yr ymgyrch yn denu cefnogaeth hyfforddwyr pêl-droed lleol sydd wedi bod yn ymgyrchu dros dîm o'r fath ers tro byd.
Mae'r newyddion yn brawf o'r hyn sy'n bosib pan fydd cynghorau'n gweithio gyda thrigolion lleol ac aelodau'r gymuned. Diolch o galon i bawb sy'n rhan o'r fenter.
Roedd y Cynghorydd Louise Emery, Dirprwy Arweinydd Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy ac Aelod o'r Cabinet dros Hamdden wrth ei bodd gyda'r penderfyniad hefyd:
Mae’n gam gwych ac rwy'n edrych ymlaen at weld ein tîm yn chwarae yn erbyn siroedd eraill. Fel cynghorwyr, cawn ein hethol gan ein trigolion ac mae ond yn iawn ein bod ni'n gwrando ar yr hyn sydd ganddyn nhw i'w ddweud. Hoffwn ddiolch hefyd i'r grŵp lleol o hyfforddwyr pêl-droed am gefnogi a dilyn y fenter hon.
