This week we announced a new points-based immigration system, which will take back control of our borders and reduce overall migration numbers, while attracting the brightest and best to live and work in the UK.
- We are delivering on the people’s priorities, by ending free movement and the reliance on cheap, low-skilled labour coming into the country, while also ensuring businesses have access to the talent they need.
- Our new immigration system – taking effect from 1 January 2021 – will assign points for specific skills, qualifications, salaries or professions, with visas only awarded to those who gain enough points, ensuring we attract the brightest and best to this country.
- Our new system will give top priority to those with the highest skills and the greatest talents from around the whole world – boosting our economy and unleashing Britain’s full potential.
