Pupils at Ysgol Bodafon have been taking part in Oxfam’s “Send my Friend to School” campaign. “Send MyFriend to School” brings together thousands of children across the UK to speak up for the right to education.
In 2000 more than 180 countries agreed Millennium Development Goal 2 to “ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere, girls and boys alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling.” Since 2000 many countries have made rapid progress. Rwanda now has 99% of children in school, Tanzania has increased the school enrolment rate to 99.6% in ten years, and Vietnam one teacher for every nineteen pupils.
However, progress has stalled and there is still much to do. There are currently 58 million children out of school. Girls, children in conflict areas and children with disabilities are missing out the most. World Leaders will gather at the United Nations in New York in September to decide on new targets to ensure that every child has access to education.
Ysgol Bodafon pupils have designed their 3D World Leaders, who have brought the pupils’ messages about education to Guto. The 3D World Leaders visited the Eglwysbach Show with Guto, before he takes their messages down to Westminster after the Summer Recess.
Commenting on the 3D World Leaders, Guto said, “I am really pleased to see this issue being taken seriously in the local community. In the United Kingdom we are incredibly lucky to benefit from one of most advanced education systems in the world. Education is a key tool for eliminating poverty and many children, especially girls and those caught up in conflicts are denied a basic education. Ysgol Bodafon’s pupils should be applauded for highlighting such a worthwhile cause.”
Mae disgyblion Ysgol Bodafon wedi cymryd rhan yn ymgyrch Oxfam i “Anfon fy Ffrind i’r Ysgol”. Ymgyrch yw hon sy’n dod â miloedd o blant o bob rhan o’r DU at ei gilydd i dynnu sylw at yr hawl i addysg.
Yn 2000 cytunodd dros 180 o wledydd ar Wyth Nod Datblygu’r Mileniwm. Yr ail o’r nodau hyn oedd “sicrhau, erbyn 2015, bod plant ledled y byd, boed hwy’n fechgyn neu ferched, yn derbyn addysg gynradd lawn”. Oddi ar y flwyddyn 2000 mae nifer o wledydd wedi gwneud cynnydd ardderchog. Erbyn hyn mae 99% o blant Rwanda yn mynd i’r ysgol, yn Tanzania mae cyfran y plant sy’n cofrestru mewn ysgolion wedi cynyddu 99.6% mewn 10 mlynedd ac yn Fietnam ceir un athro ar gyfer pob 19 disgybl.
Fodd bynnag, mae llawer i’w wneud o hyd. Ar hyn o bryd mae tua 58 miliwn o blant yn y byd nad ydynt yn cael ysgol. Y rhai sydd fwyaf ar eu colled yw merched, plant a chanddynt anableddau a phlant mewn rhannau o’r byd lle ceir rhyfel. Bydd arweinwyr y byd yn cwrdd yn y Cenhedloedd Unedig yn Efrog Newydd fis Medi i benderfynu ar dargedau newydd i sicrhau bod pob plentyn yn cael mynediad i addysg.
Mae disgyblion Ysgol Bodafon wedi gwneud modelau 3D o Arweinwyr y Byd ac arnynt negeseuon pwysig am addysg. Maent wedi rhoi’r modelau hyn i Guto a daeth ef â hwy gadag ef i Sioe Eglwysbach i’w harddangos. Pan fydd y Senedd yn ailagor fis Medi bydd Guto yn mynd â’r negeseuon hyn gydag ef i San Steffan.
