Earlier this week Aberconwy MP Guto Bebb joined the RSPB in Parliament to learn about their Spring campaign – Let Nature Sing. The RSPB quite rightly ask – can you imagine spring without birdsong? Summer without the buzzing of a bee? Guto was delighted to hear that to raise awareness of the decline of wildlife the RSPB have made a “single” consisting entirely of birdsong. At the event Guto said,
Great to join the NaturesVoice Let Nature Sing event in Parliament. Amazing to hear Let Nature Sing single, discover the healing power of birdsong and learn what we can do to reverse natures decline. Amazing single and a fantastic campaign from the RSPB!
The main aims of the Let Nature Sing Campaign are below.
- The single contains some of the most recognisable birdsongs that we used to enjoy, but that are on their way to disappearing forever like the Cuckoo, Nightingale, and Turtle Dove.
- The RSPB is calling on the public to download, stream and share the single and help get birdsong into the charts for the first time, spreading the word that people across the UK are passionate about nature’s recovery.
- The track is designed to reconnect the nation with nature, helping people find a moment to relax and promote a feeling of tranquillity, as birdsong has been proven to aid mental health and promote feelings of wellbeing.
- Directed by Sam Lee, award-winning singer and musician, and produced by Bill Barclay, musical Director at the Globe Theatre; the single uses entirely new sound recordings from RSPB nature reserves around the UK.
The single is available on all major platforms and it is hoped will reach a crescendo in the charts for International Dawn Chorus Day on 5 May. More information and access to the download can be found at www.rspb.org.uk/letnaturesing
We are very lucky in Aberconwy to have a great bird reserve at Llandudno Junction where we can see not only the more common species but also feathered visitors from all over the world at different times of the year. If you haven’t visited, it is a super spot all-round the year and there are good facilities for visitors including walks with terrific views, a café and large car park. If you have a few minutes over the next week or so, listen to “Let Nature Sing” – it’s lovely.
