It was back to Parliament after the Whit Recess and it has been busy. I took the opportunity to speak in the House on the subject of Outdoor Education and was delighted to draw attention to the valuable work done by outdoor education providers in Aberconwy. It was particularly good to be able to mention the work of Phil and his staff at Marle Hall in Llandudno Junction; I just wish there had to the time to mention all the terrific institutions in Aberconwy that have had such a challenging year. I also spoke in Westminster Hall about the Levelling Up Fund and spoke in favour of Freeports in the debate on the National Insurance Bill. So what with the G7 summit last weekend in Cornwall and the busy parliamentary schedule, I think it is fair to say that politics is packed and I am keeping occupied in London!
Of course, you continue to keep me busy in the constituency with casework and correspondence. The email postbag over the last few weeks has contained a lot of comment and lobbying about the G7 summit, the Free Trade agreement with Australia and more surprisingly a sudden rush of emails asked me to attend the meeting of the APPG on Dying Well that was being held last week. I am a Vice Chair of this group and am very supportive of all they are trying to achieve and yes, I did attend!
It was great to welcome the Minister for Employment, Mims Davies to Lyons Parks – Pendyffryn Hall, Dwygyfylchi where we met with young people who are benefiting from the Kickstart scheme. Some of the jobs that these young people are training for are maintenance and joinery – so with long term career prospects. They were an engaging and interesting group. I wish them all the very best and am delighted to see this scheme working on the ground here in Aberconwy.
Last weekend started well; reading the terrific news that Nemos Fish and Chip Shop in Betws Coed had been named one of the top four Welsh “chippies”. In the interests of research I think Mrs Millar and I will have to have Fish and Chips next time we are in Betws.
On Saturday morning, I joined with Llinos Davies and members of GOGS (Great Orme Goats) triathlon club and some of their family members to do a “litter pick” . Llinos has been cleaning up behind Coed y Gaer throughout lockdown and organised this group as a part of the Cadwch Cymru Daclus ("Keep Wales Tidy") effort this week.
It was sad to see that it looked like yet another party had happened. And it was really sad to see the mess in such a beautiful place and especially the thousands of pieces of broken glass. I share Llinos’ view that “we were all young once - but we can still clear up after ourselves.”
There were hundreds of empty glass bottles; a broken chair; broken tent poles, a sleeping bag and all sorts of other litter. In three hours twenty five bags of rubbish were filled and removed.
It was great to see the support given to Llinos to make it happen. So I must make mention of Richard Thomas of Mostyn Estates who looks after this SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and came along. Also, St David's College who allowed us access through their land and to Cllr. Greg Robbins of Conwy County Council who provided the equipment - and Dave Farrell who came to collect the bags when we were done!
This is a great example of what can be done when we work together. I was very proud to be a part of Llinos’ group and am keen to promote and support all this type of work that benefits the community! So if you want to organise something similar, or think I could be a useful pair of hands, please just give my office a ring on 01492 583094.
Crynodeb Newyddion 18 Mehefin
Nôl i’r Senedd ar ôl gwyliau’r Sulgwyn ac mae hi wedi bod yn brysur. Cymerais y cyfle i siarad yn y Tŷ ynghylch Addysg yn yr Awyr Agored ac roeddwn wrth fy modd yn tynnu sylw at y gwaith gwerthfawr sydd wedi’i wneud dan ddarparwyr addysg yn yr awyr agored yn Aberconwy. Roedd hi’n arbennig o dda gallu sôn am waith Phil a’i weithwyr yn Neuadd Marle yng Nghyffordd Llandudno; Mae’n bechod nad oedd amser i sôn am yr holl sefydliadau anhygoel yn Aberconwy sydd wedi cael blwyddyn mor heriol. Siaradais hefyd yn Neuadd San Steffan am y Gronfa Codi’r Gwastad a siaradais o blaid Porthladdoedd Rhydd yn y drafodaeth am y Bil Yswiriant Gwladol. Felly, gyda’r gynhadledd G7 y penwythnos diwethaf yng Nghernyw a’r amserlen seneddol brysur, dwi’n meddwl ei bod hi’n deg dweud bod gwleidyddiaeth yn llwythog a dwi’n cadw’n brysur yn Llundain!
Wrth gwrs, rydych chithau yn parhau i fy nghadw’n brysur yn yr etholaeth gyda gwaith achos a gohebiaeth. Mae’r bag post e-byst wedi cynnwys llawer o sylwadau a cheisiadau yn ymwneud â’r gynhadledd G7, cytundeb y Farchnad Rydd ag Awstralia ac yn fwy rhyfeddol fyth, rhuthr cyflym o e-byst yn gofyn i mi fynychu cyfarfod y Grŵp Trawsbleidiol Seneddol (APPG) yn ymwneud â Marw gydag Urddas a gynhaliwyd yr wythnos ddiwethaf. Fi ydy Is-gadeirydd y grŵp hwn ac rwy’n gefnogol iawn o’r cyfan maent yn ceisio ei gyflawni a do, fe wnes i fynychu!
Roedd hi’n wych croesawu’r Gweinidog dros Gyflogaeth, Mims Davies i Barc Lyons - Neuadd Pendyffryn, Dwygyfylchi lle y cwrddon ni â phobl ifanc sy’n elwa o’r fenter Kickstart. Mae rhai o’r swyddi mae’r bobl ifanc hyn yn cael eu hyfforddi ar eu cyfer yn swyddi cynnal a saernïaeth - felly swyddi gyda rhagolygon hirdymor. Roeddent yn grŵp ysgogol a diddorol. Dwi’n dymuno’n dda iddyn nhw ac yn falch o weld y fenter yn gweithio yma yn Aberconwy.
Dechreuodd yr wythnos diwethaf yn dda; darllen y newyddion anhygoel bod y siop ‘Nemos Fish and Chip Shop’ ym Metws y Coed wedi ei henwi yn un o’r pedair siop “sgods a sglods” gorau yng Nghymru. Er budd ymchwil dwi’n meddwl y bydd rhaid i Mrs Millar a minnau gael Pysgod a Sglodion y tro nesaf rydyn ni ym Metws.
Fore Sadwrn, ymunais â Llinos Davies ac aelodau clwb treiathalon GOGS (‘Great Orme Goats’) a rhai o aelodau o’u teuluoedd i “gasglu sbwriel”. Mae Llinos wedi bod yn glanhau tu ôl i Goed y Gaer drwy’r cyfnod clo ac wedi trefnu’r grŵp hwn yn rhan o ymdrech Cadwch Gymru’n Daclus yr wythnos hon.
Yn drist iawn, roedd hi’n ymddangos bod parti arall wedi cael ei gynnal. Ac roedd hi’n andros o drist gweld y llanast mewn lle mor hardd a gweld yn arbennig, y miloedd o ddarnau o wydr toredig. Dwi o’r un farn â Llinos ein bod “ni gyd yn ifanc unwaith - ond gallwn ni glirio ar ein holau er hynny.” Roedd cannoedd o boteli gwydr gwag; cadair wedi’i thorri, polion pabell wedi’u torri, a sach gysgu a phob math o sbwriel. Mewn tair awr, llenwyd dau ddeg pump bag o sbwriel a chludwyd hwy oddi yno.
Roedd hi’n wych gweld y gefnogaeth i Llinos yn ei hymdrech i wneud hyn i ddigwydd. Felly, mae’n rhaid i mi sôn am Richard Thomas o Ystâd Mostyn sy’n gofalu am y safle SoDdGA (Safle o Ddiddordeb Gwyddonol Arbennig) hwn a ddaeth gyda ni. Hefyd, i Goleg St David a wnaeth ganiatáu mynediad i ni drwy eu tir ac i’r Cynghorydd Greg Robbins o Gyngor Bwrdeistref Conwy a ddarparodd y cyfarpar - a Dave Farrell a ddaeth i gasglu bagiau ar ôl i ni orffen!
Mae hyn yn enghraifft wych o’r hyn y gellir ei gyflawni pan rydym yn cydweithio. Roeddwn yn falch o fod yn rhan o grŵp Llinos ac rwy’n awyddus i annog a chefnogi’r math hwn o waith sydd o fudd i’r gymuned! Felly, er mwyn hybu a chefnogi rhywbeth tebyg, neu os ydych yn meddwl y gallwn i fod o gymorth, jyst ffoniwch fy swyddfa ar 01492 583094.
