Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has championed levelling up, new nuclear at Wylfa Newydd and a freeport on the island in a series of major engagements at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.
Virginia chaired a prestigious panel discussion called Nuclear: Powering and Levelling Up in Wales with leading industry players including the Nuclear Industry Association and Bechtel to examine the overwhelming case for new nuclear at the Wylfa Newydd site – the best in the UK.
She also took part in other panel events about nuclear and the Government’s 2050 net zero ambitions.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson even received a copy of Virginia’s Annual Report in person. It is going to every home on Anglesey setting out what she has achieved since being elected in 2019 and her ongoing priorities.
In addition, Virginia supported the Welsh Secretary in her new role as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Welsh Office.
Other events she attended included meeting up with the National Trust, Alzheimer’s Society, Deaf Children’s Society, British Heart Foundation, Marie Curie, Guide Dogs, NFU and Cancer Research UK during the three-day conference that ended yesterday.
“I was really pleased to chair a major panel about nuclear power and how it can really help Wales level up and bring jobs and investment,” said Virginia.
“As chair of the Nuclear Delivery Group part of my role is to drive forward investment at Wylfa Newydd and a freeport is a vital component of that.
“I will continue to make the case for new nuclear power on Anglesey.”
Virginia added it was good to have a chat with the PM.
“He was on fine form as always, really keen to hear about Anglesey and he promised to read my annual report. You can’t say fairer than that.”
