Janet Finch Saunders, Shadow Minister for Climate Change is today calling on the Welsh Government to push full steam ahead with boosting tourism and air travel to and from Wales as the nation bounces back from COVID-19. On average, Snowdonia national park and Aberconwy welcome over 10 million visitors every year demonstrating how popular our national regions are.
Commenting on this, the Shadow Minister says:
“Wales can accommodate for all types of visitors. Those seeking adventure in and around our coastline and mountains or those seeking some fun in our cities, Wales is a perfect destination for families and leisure tourists of all kinds. As we begin to recover from the pandemic, the Welsh Government must ensure that pre-tourism levels return. This is our opportunity to promote Welsh culture and life and to make it known that Wales is open for business.”
The Shadow Minister continues to press the Welsh Government on its tourism agenda as seemingly, little has been done to further promote the ‘Visit Wales’ campaign. The flight link between the nations two major airports remains suspended, despite hundreds of thousands of pounds being spent on maintaining the route on paper.
The Shadow Minister adds:
“It’s disappointing to see the Welsh Government neglect two perfectly good airports which have the potential to link millions in Wales with the rest of the World. Despite numerous flight links to Spain and Portugal being on offer from Cardiff Airport, it is still without direct services to countries such as Germany, Belgium, and Denmark. This is simply not good enough and removes the opportunity to showcase Cardiff, Wales and our towns and regions in northern Europe. I hope that as we seek to boost business and industry in Wales, the government will begin to act decisively on promoting Wales as a fantastic destination.”
The Shadow Minister will continue to emphasise the importance of international travel from Wales, as well as the ever-important task of improving rail and bus routes.
