In continuing her work to improve pedestrian safety along Queen’s Road in Craig-y-Don, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has today written to officials within Conwy County Borough Council and North Wales Police to request an update on the recent road safety survey undertaken.
It follows a socially distanced site visit, coordinated by Janet, to the speeding hotspot in December which was attended by local Councillors, residents, and local authority officers. Mrs Finch-Saunders says that any proposed changes to improve road safety should "reflect the increased usage of the outstanding park facilities."
Commenting on her letters, Janet said:
“Queen’s Road is one of the main routes to our world-famous promenade and excellent local businesses. Given the strategic importance of the highway, that runs through the very heart of our community, as well as a number of recent road incidents, I am not surprised that residents are concerned about pedestrian safety.
“Our socially distanced site visit in December was an important and positive first step towards realising what changes are necessary in the longer term. Now that time has elapsed so that officials could undertake a road safety survey, in what have been challenging public health conditions, I am keen to push this campaign towards a positive final resolution.
“I have long been of the mind that any proposed investment to Queen’s Road must reflect the increased usage of the outstanding park facilities, which has been so selflessly cared for by the Friends of Queen’s Park. With the ongoing traffic issue presenting a real risk to the safety of young local children, I am clear that this concern should now be treated as a priority.”
