Paul Davies MS: “No health board should be allowed to languish in special measures”
Commenting on the 5th anniversary of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board being in special measures (8th June 2020), the Leader of the Opposition in the Welsh Parliament, Paul Davies MS, outlines what he would do as First Minister.
“No health board should be allowed to languish in special measures for any length of time let alone five years. The Welsh Labour Government has failed to get to grips with the issues in North Wales and last year the Health Minister said he would not set a timetable to get the health board out of special measures. Sadly, another year passes, and the impact of Covid-19 will be significant in future changes needed.
“But the Welsh Conservatives will not let this continue. On the first day as your First Minister I will order a swift but thorough review into Betsi Cadwaladr UHB. Within a month I will then publish a clear and comprehensive roadmap, with a timetable, of what needs to be achieved and by when, to get Betsi out of special measures.
“I want to give confidence to the people of North Wales that they will receive the best treatment and we must do everything we can to fully support our incredible NHS staff to deliver the world class healthcare that the residents of the area deserve.
“By using the name Betsi Cadwaladr, the health board must be a strong memorial to the heroic Welsh nurse, but the Welsh Government has let her name be tarnished. This must end.”
