Guto Bebb MP once again will be supporting Holocaust Memorial Day. Organised by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, Holocaust Memorial Day remembers the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. 2015’s event was held on 27th January, marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
Established in 2005, 3,614 activities were held across the UK to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day in 2015. Statistics show that 83% of people in the UK have heard of Holocaust Memorial Day with 1.3 million watching the Commemorative Ceremony on BBC Two. The event was supported by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Leader of the Opposition Ed Milliband, the Chief Rabbi and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Speaking about the event, Prime Minister David Cameron said, “Holocaust Memorial Day brings together people of every faith and in every community of our country. Here in Britain, we will always remember.”
Guto commented, “I was pleased to hear the Prime Minister speak so highly of Holocaust Memorial Day. It is very important that we raise awareness of the Holocaust and genocides that have followed since in Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur and the figures show that Holocaust Memorial Day is doing just that. The Trust have chosen the theme “Don’t Stand By” for Holocaust Memorial Day 2016. It is important that we remember this message and confront hatred and discrimination wherever we encounter it.”
Unwaith eto bydd yr Aelod Seneddol Guto Bebb yn cefnogi Diwrnod Cofio’r Holocost. Cynhaliwyd digwyddiad 2015 ar 27 Ionawr i nodi ei bod yn 70 mlynedd ers i Wersyll Auschwitz gael ei ryddhau.
Dechreuwyd cynnal Diwrnod Cofio’r Holocost yn 2005 ac yn 2015 cynhaliwyd 3,614 o ddigwyddiadau ledled y DU. Dengys ystadegau bod 83% o bobl y DU wedi clywed am Ddiwrnod Cofio’r Holocost a gwyliodd 1.3 miliwn ohonynt y Seremoni Goffaol ar BBC2. Dywedodd Guto, “Roeddwn yn falch o glywed y Prif Weinidog yn canmol Diwrnod Cofio’r Holocost. Mae’n bwysig iawn ein bod yn codi ymwybyddiaeth o’r Holocost a’r hil-laddiadau sydd wedi digwydd ers hynny yn Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia a Darfur ac mae’r ystadegau’n dangos bod Diwrnod Cofio’r Holocost yn llwyddo i wneud hynny. Mae’r Ymddiriedolaeth wedi dewis y thema “Peidio Anwybyddu” ar gyfer Diwrnod Cofio’r Holocost 2016. Mae’n bwysig ein bod yn cofio’r neges hon ac yn mynd i’r afael â chasineb a rhagwahaniaethu ble bynnag y mae’n digwydd.”
