Guto Bebb MP is backing farmers and rural communities in Aberconwy by supporting the Welsh Conservative’s Red Meat Charter. International sales of Welsh lamb and beef contributed more than £244m to the Welsh economy in 2013. Welsh Conservatives passionately believe that protecting the red meat industry is vital in order to boost the Welsh economy.
Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Russell George AM, said: “Our red meat industry is absolutely critical to the Welsh economy.”
“It needs inventive government thinking to support efficiency and boost sustainability. This charter sets out our innovative plans to help the finest quality meat in the world flourish and grow.”
“Supermarkets must play their part and I want to see every single store sign up to a voluntary code that means floor space dedicated to nothing but the promotion and support of lamb and beef born on Welsh soil. That’s the vote of confidence our producers deserve and we will fight tooth and nail for it.”
Welsh Conservative Leader, Andrew RT Davies AM, said: “The importance of the red meat industry cannot be underestimated and this innovative charter details a number of clear points that could support it and boost its sustainability.”
“Labour’s representation of agriculture in Wales continues to flounder. Its recent relegation back to a junior post around the cabinet table speaks volumes on what Labour really thinks of rural communities in Wales.”
“Welsh Conservatives would prioritise agriculture – properly support farming – and put the red meat industry back at the heart of the agenda.”
