Mark Isherwood AM – the Welsh Conservative Assembly spokesperson on the voluntary sector – has reacted to the Deputy Minister’s call to the UK Government for further financial support for Welsh organisations saying:
“So far, the UK Government has provided more than £2 billion to Wales to tackle Covid-19 (Coronavirus), and my colleague Angela Burns AM has said that we would like to see up to £10 million allocated to hospice care in Wales. Charities in Wales have access to up to £44m, with nearly 50 percent of it coming from the UK Government.
“And only yesterday, another colleague, Russell George AM, said Welsh Government’s Economic Resilience Fund, which we were told would plug gaps left open by other schemes, is still leaving enterprises struggling because of Coronavirus and are still likely to fall through the gaps.
“The charity and third sectors in Wales are working extremely hard to support communities through this pandemic. We welcome the additional funding for charities, which needs to be directed to them to ensure that charities can survive this struggle.”
