Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has met with COP26 president Alok Sharma to be briefed about the Glasgow climate change conference.
The international event concluded last week and saw nearly 200 countries agreeing the Glasgow Climate Pact to keep the vital target alive of limiting global warming to 1.5C.
Climate negotiators from around the world agreed to urgently accelerate climate action.
Agreements to stop deforestation, cut methane emissions - a key greenhouse gas – by 30% and a pact to phase down coal were some of the big successes.
In addition, increased help and cooperation to support climate vulnerable countries was also agreed.
“This summit really acknowledged the UK’s leadership in this vitally important battle to limit the effects of climate change,” said Virginia.
“There is much to do but much was also achieved in Glasgow and I would like to thank the president for all he has done. It was a really tough job and he did it so well.
“We must keep the pressure on to make sure countries keep to their pledges. We must also look to invest in green technology like fuels, heating and transport here in the UK to continue our leadership and set an example for others.
“To achieve this, I really welcome the focus on decent and sustainable green jobs as we transition to net zero.
“The UK's Net Zero Strategy will drive forward net zero and level up in the UK by supporting up to 190,000 jobs in the middle of the 2020s and up to 440,000 jobs in 2030.
“As everyone knows I will work my socks off to ensure a good number of those jobs are here on Anglesey – the Green Energy Isle - to drive prosperity and allow our young people to stay on the island in secure well-paid jobs.”
Alok Sharma added: “At COP26 the world came together to agree the historic Glasgow Climate Pact and we can now say, with credibility, that we have kept within reach the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees.
“But, its pulse is weak and it will only survive if countries keep their promises and translate commitments into rapid action.
“Over the coming year the UK Presidency will work hard to drive even greater ambition on the delivery of the Glasgow Climate Pact to lead the fight against climate change.”
