Commenting on the statement released today (June 3) by the Welsh Government calling for a postponement on free trade negotiations, Darren Millar MS – the Welsh Conservative spokesperson for Exiting the EU – said:
“The Welsh Labour Government seems determined, yet again, to do everything it can to thwart the will of the people of Wales by calling for delays in free trade negotiations with the EU.
“But with the coronavirus pandemic taking its toll on our economy, the last thing we need that Wales and the UK needs are delays to the negotiation of free trade agreements with the EU, US, Japan, and other important trading partners which can help us bounce back in the future.
“Instead of fighting old battles over Brexit, which they have already lost, the Welsh Labour Government should be working constructively with the UK Government as it seeks the best free trade deal possible with our European partners.”
