Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie is supporting an island disabled sailing charity’s quest for funding after visiting the organisation to see how it operates.
Virginia even took the helm of SEAS Sailability’s Wheely Boat for a great evening on the water at the Conway Centre guided by crew member Jon Gamon.
The fledgling charity is dedicated to getting disabled people, their families and carers active and having fun on and around the water. It has applied for £12,500 from The Fore for funding to allow it to continue its good work.
Virginia will write in support of the application and said: “What an amazing organisation right here on the island that is doing something special in such an enjoyable way.
“It doesn’t just exist for the disabled, but for the carers and families of the disabled, so they can enjoy an experience together.
“They also lay on a very tasty BBQ. I was really impressed with the vision of the charity’s trustees and I will be supporting the application for more funding.”
SEAS Sailability Chair of Trustees Richard Horovitz added: “On behalf of both the volunteers and participants at SEAS, it was both a pleasure to welcome Virginia yesterday.
“We appreciated her time and the care and attention she paid to understanding the concept of SEAS.
“The trustees and volunteers have worked exceptionally hard for the past few years to make SEAS work, and as a fledgling charity, Virginia’s visit raised the spirits of every volunteer.”
SEAS Sailability was set up in 2017 with the aim of enabling the disabled, their families and carers to connect, bond and improve their quality of life.
It grew from taking 40 disabled people, their families and carers sailing in 2017, to 938 individual sailing experiences in 2019.
All trips are organised and overseen by highly trained and qualified volunteers and professionals and in conjunction with numerous local established charities and Carers Outreach Service for North West Wales.
It was given charitable status in 2020.
